OwnershipMatters is a research project and website initiated by the Employee Ownership Association and supported by the University of Oxford.

It aims to build up knowledge about the UK’s increasingly important co-owned business sector – companies with a significant degree of employee ownership.

This co-owned sector of the economy is worth at least £25 billion annually, but remarkably little is known about the true extent and shape of the sector – a knowledge gap that the OwnershipMatters website aims to rectify.

Please help this project by contributing your knowledge.

Companies with employee ownership can assist this important research project by either editing details about them already on the site, or creating a new entry for their company if one doesn't exist. Simply go to "Add new company" and follow the instructions, or go to "Table of existing companies", select your company, and click edit at the bottom of the page.

We are most interested in:

  • Companies with more than £5m revenue; and
  • Private companies that are more than 25% employee-owned; or
  • Quoted companies that are more than 10% employee-owned

Company information is held in separate pages, one per company. The company pages each contain a panel showing the key metrics for each company. At the foot of each company page, you can see the categories to which each company belongs.

The data can be viewed in table form and the view can be split in different ways depending on the categories to which each company belongs. Data may also be downloaded in spreadsheet-friendly files.
